Honey the cow has become a beloved member of the Northmore family, enjoying evenings in front of the TV in their living room. This charming tale begins with Honey’s challenging start in life on the family’s farm near Ivybridge, Devon.
When Honey was born prematurely last spring, she was too weak to stand. The Northmore family brought her inside to care for her. Carolyn, her husband Michael, and their son Jack worked tirelessly to nurse the fragile calf back to health.
Michael and Jack had found Honey’s mother struggling to give birth one cold, wet night in March. After calling the vet, it was determined that an emergency C-section was needed. To everyone’s surprise, Honey was a tiny, white calf—unlike the farm’s usual red or black cattle.
«She was the result of an ‘illicit’ affair,» laughs Carolyn, referencing Honey’s unexpected coloring.

With her mother too weak to care for her, Honey found herself under the constant care of the Northmore family. Carolyn, who manages the local vet clinic, admits that Honey might be experiencing a bit of an identity crisis.
«Honey grew up playing with dog toys and thought she was a puppy. She probably sees Molly as her mom,» says Carolyn.
During the pandemic, Carolyn’s daughter Molly had plenty of time to bond with Honey, often carrying the tiny calf around. Honey quickly became best friends with the family’s dog, Archie.
«Honey doesn’t seem to realize she’s a cow. When she passes the barn, the other cows moo at her, but she doesn’t moo back. She’s more like a puppy or perhaps a teenager now,» Carolyn explains.
Despite her unusual upbringing, Honey is exceptionally well-behaved. Carolyn swears the cow has never had an accident inside the house.
Honey now sleeps outside in a cozy little hut near the back door but still spends her evenings indoors, relaxing with her human family.
