O’Connor skyrocketed to fame in 1990 with her chart-topping smash hit «Nothing Compares 2 U,» a masterpiece penned and composed by the legendary Prince. Throughout her career, she has shared 10 albums with the world, with her most recent release being «I’m Not Bossy, I’m the Boss» in 2014.
Two years after her tremendous success, O’Connor attracted attention with a notorious appearance on Saturday Night Live. During her performance, she famously tore up a picture of Pope John Paul II after singing an a cappella rendition of Bob Marley’s «War.» Following the song, she urged the audience to «fight the true enemy.»
In 2021, she announced her retirement from the music industry and touring. She explained that she felt she had gotten older and was tired. However, just a few days later, she had a change of heart and expressed her love for her job – making music. She also highlighted the challenges of being a talented and outspoken woman, having to constantly overcome walls of prejudice in order to make a living.
Born in Dublin on 8 December 1966, O’Connor was the third of five children born to John, an engineer and lawyer, and his wife Johanna.
She has been open about mental illness. O’Connor was eventually diagnosed with bipolar disorder as well as complex post-traumatic stress disorder and borderline personality disorder. She leaves behind three children.
