Prince William shares rare childhood photo with Princess Diana – fans are deeply moved

Prince William (43) marked Mother’s Day by sharing a rare childhood photo of himself with Princess Diana — a photograph that, according to British media, has never been shown publicly before.

The image was shared on the official account of the Prince and Princess of Wales on the platform X, and shows a two-year-old William sitting in a flower meadow alongside his mother.

The moment was captured at the family’s home, Highgrove in Gloucestershire — where Diana and the then Prince Charles lived with their two sons during the 1980s.

A moment from childhood

In the photo, the young prince is sitting in a field filled with red poppies, close beside his mother. The image is believed to have been taken in 1984 and offers a rare glimpse into the private life of the royal family.

Royal fans quickly reacted to the post on social media, with thousands commenting on how touching it was to see a new glimpse of William and Diana together.

Along with the photograph, the prince shared a personal message.

– I remember my mother today and every day. Thinking of everyone who is remembering someone they love today. Happy Mother’s Day.

The grief after Diana

Princess Diana tragically died in a car crash in Paris in 1997. William was just 15 years old at the time.

Images from the funeral — where William and his younger brother Prince Harry walked behind their mother’s coffin — left a deep impression on people around the world.

Since then, both brothers have spoken openly about their grief and how the loss of their mother continues to affect them.

Still an important part of the family

Even though Diana passed away nearly three decades ago, she still plays an important role in the family.

According to British media, William and Catherine make sure their children learn about the grandmother they never had the chance to meet.

Their children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis — make cards every year for “Granny Diana” on Mother’s Day.

William has previously said that the tradition means a lot to him.

Huge response online

The post with the old photograph has received enormous attention online.

Many people say the image is a reminder of just how important Diana still is — not only to her family, but to millions of people around the world.

And for William, the message seems clear:

The memory of his mother lives on — both within the family and in the hearts of people everywhere.
