In October 2024, Aaron Spencer woke up to every parent’s worst nightmare.
His 14-year-old daughter was missing.
He jumped into his truck and began searching desperately. Not long after, he found her — sitting inside a car with a 67-year-old man.
This was no stranger.
The man had already been charged with more than 40 serious sexual offenses involving Spencer’s daughter — and was under a strict restraining order.
The confrontation that turned deadly
Spencer forced the car off the road.

It ended with Spencer pulling out a gun — and fatally shooting the man.
He then called the police himself and reported the incident.
“The system failed me”

He has announced his candidacy for sheriff in Lonoke County — the very place where he was arrested, according to CNN.
“I’m the father who acted to protect my daughter when the system failed,” he says in a campaign video.
He believes law enforcement and the courts allowed a dangerous man to remain free — leaving him with no choice but to act.
A nation divided

To some, Spencer is a father who did what was necessary to protect his child.
